Fife Classic Scramble - 25th April 2010

Round 2 - Kirkness Farm, Fife.

Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club’s Leslie Scramble.

For the fourth year running the Leslie track produced an excellent meeting with loads of close racing. Just under a mile in length it was run in an anticlockwise direction for the first time and despite persistent rain in the morning it was in perfect grippy condition for the start of racing.

The combined Twinshocks and Pre 77 Class provided some of the best action despite the number of these riders being a bit thin on the ground. The tremendous battles between Ian Robertson and Graham Smith were a sight to behold, so come on you Twinshock and Pre 77 boys give us a try. I’m sure you’d enjoy our meetings and you get plenty of racing with four eight lap clutch start races. Robertson and Smith tied for the overall win with Andy Malloch looking good until his Armstrong’s primary drive belt snapped in half allowing the stylish Steven Bennett to take second. Adam Wright took his first ever Class win in the Pre77’s after dicing all day with Craig Dickson whose XT Yamaha twice stalled when well placed. Ian Ridley took third place before suffering a nasty crash later in the meeting which resulted in a trip to hospital.

There were full line-ups for all the Classic Classes and the star of the show was undoubtedly Scot Maxwell on his thundering 1974 CCM who was never headed all day in both the Pre 75 over 300cc Class and the under 40’s.He got great starts and was so smooth but similarly mounted Lewis Bell was almost as quick although he was hampered by having to come through the pack each time.

Ian Stainton continued his great form this season with wins in both the Over 40’s and the smaller of the pre75 Classes on that screaming 250cc A3 Kawasaki of his. However he was challenged hard by Steve Dent and Billy Chisolm in the Over 40’s and Aaron Dent and Derek Macauley in the pre 75’s but Macauley’s Bultaco Pursang was faltering quite badly during this class only to run better later in the day when he finished third in the Over 50’s just behind Jim Allison his new CCM with the winner being the tenacious Fergus Moodie having one of his best rides with the club on his Maico.

Hard charging Andy King on Charlie Robertson’s 250cc AJS Stormer did well to hold off Faber mounted Steve Dent and the BSA of Mick Mosely in the Pre70’s and in the pre60’s first round winner Wullie Gordon had trouble with his Triumph twin allowing the Goldstars of Ken Soutar and Mike Bell to take first and second respectively. Big Ken also won the over 60,s class from Kelso Bell who was riding with only third and top gear on his BSA and the beautiful 250cc twinport CZ of Stuart Riddell finished third.

Smooth riding Ioin Munro tied with Stewart Riddell for the win in the pre 65 up to 350cc Class with Graham Bell second to complete a smashing little meeting. Next up it’s the fantastic and picturesque track at Dunoon on the 5th June, for details please see the website at www.classicscramble.com or contact Creena Bell on 01875 822195.
