Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club’s Whitekirk Scramble This meeting was a superb way to end a really great season with very keen racing on a fast and flowing course. Surprisingly after all the heavy rain the much improved track was in perfect condition as racing began and brilliant sunshine added to everyone’s enjoyment. There was a first in the Pre 60 Class with father and son Colin and Lee Jackson tieing for the overall win on their wonderful sounding Goldstars with the 1949 road based AJS of Richard Jones in second. In the Pre 65 up to 350cc Class there was a much deserved victory for Jim Allan, brother of motocross legend Vic Allan but also a terrific rider in his own right. There was a tie for second between Andrew Johnson who incidentally is the Mayor of Fulham and Hammersmith and Charlie Robertson on his Starmaker Metisse. Lewis Bell continued his great form of late in the bigger Pre 65 class but was led at times by the battling Peter Yeats with Lee Jackson taking his second Class podium of the day in third. The smooth as silk riding of Ant Ireland prevailed as usual in the Pre 70 class with Willie Wallace second and the most improved rider of the season, Andrew King coming home third. Spectacular Tom Anderson took his customary Pre 65 up to 300cc win with his main adversaries Grant McClure and Derek Macauley tieing for second followed by fast rising star Jamie Rutter on his very rare Canam. Keith Barnes was far too quick for everyone on his Col Wilkinson tuned CCM in both the bigger Pre 75 class and the under 40’s where a stylish Colin Barrie finished second and Craig Dickson third, having recently recovered from an appendix operation. Grant McClure rode very well to beat Ant Ireland in the over 40’s with the tenacious Ian Stainton on his 400cc Kawasaki in third. Peter Yeats took the over 50’s from Maico mounted Fergus Moodie with New Zealander Steve Cornall third and in the over 60’s Willie Wallace really found his form to win from an excellent ride by AJS Stormer mounted Alistair Aird with John McBethell in third. This had been a brilliant event where the large entry had put on a scintillating display of Classic racing at it’s very best.
