Forfar Classic Scramble - 13th April 2008

Round 1, Forfar by Richard Winn

Jim Allison was in tremendous form at the Scottish Classic Club’s Forfar Scramble taking his first overall win in the Pre 70 Class in great style with two firsts and a second on his B50 BSA. In second place overall was Kendal’s Ian Stainton who just pipped Jim in a very close battle in race two but couldn’t catch the flying Edinburgh man in the other two races.

In perfect conditions on a very good course, Colin Jackson took double wins in the Pre 60 and Pre 65 over 350cc Classes with his son Lee taking second and third places and the spectacular John Soutar Jnr thrilled the spectators in taking wins in both the Twinshock and the Under 40 Classes. He had some good dices with Scott Maxwell in the Under 40 races with Tommy Anderson in third but Scott did get a much deserved win in the Pre 75 Over 300cc Class from Grant McClure and John McBethell. In the Pre 75 Under 300 cc Class Maico man Grant McClure won from rising star Craig Dickson on his TM Suzuki with Graham ‘The Hat’ Bell in third.

A refreshed John McBethell came out storming after the break to get some decent starts and take the Over 60’s Class from Tom Forsyth and Charlie Robertson but not before surviving a coming together with Peter Yeats on the final corner of the most exciting race of the day which was eventually won by John Soutar Snr on his thundering BSA Gold Star. A great start to the season was rounded out by newcomer Steve Cornall taking an excellent win in the over 50’s from the neat riding Tony Hegarty with Kelso Bell in third.
