Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club's Forfar Scramble by Richard Winn

The Scottish Classic Club's season got off to a great start with some close racing in amazingly dry conditions for the time of year on a quite demanding track. The lads on the big pre 1960 bikes kicked off proceedings and a good win from Lee Jackson with Mike Bell on the late Willie Dalling's beautiful Gold Star BSA in second and Willie Gordon third.

Evergreen Robert Kennedy Senior took the win in the pre 1965 up to 350cc class from Jim Allan on his Bultaco Metisse and Dave Muxlowe, all the way from Richmond in Yorkshire. Expected winner Steve Dent cleaned up in the bigger pre 65 class with Mike Bell second this time and many times Scottish Scrambles Champion George Hodge in third.

Steve Dent also took the pre 70 class with Michael Dobie, on his newly acquired single port CZ, and Anthony Ireland from Carlisle coming in second and third. Keith Mason made a welcome return from illness to come second to the spectacular Tommy Anderson in the pre 75 up to 300cc class with some spirited riding from Derek McAulay in third.

Fast gating Grant McClure on his Maico led all the bigger pre 75 class races for a while before being overhauled by the flying Keith Barnes on his CCM, with former Grand Prix rider Norman Barrow smoothly making his way through the field from poor starts to take second overall.

The Twinshock boys provided some fast and furious racing with Richard Charlton taking the win while his dad Ian suffered machine trouble. There was a tie for second place between Callum Sangster and Andrew Malloch.

After the interval Big Ken Soutar disappeared into the distance in the over 50's from John McCrink and trials rider turned scrambler Alan Scott. Craig Dickson achieved one of his best ever results with third in the under 40's and Stuart Stainton claimed the first ever victory in the newly introduced over 60's class while Grant McClure took a richly deserved win in the over 40's at the end of a long but very satisfying days racing.
