Richard's Report Keith Barnes put on a masterful display at the Scottish Classic Club's final meeting of the year near North Berwick in winning both the Pre 75 over 300cc class and the under 40's with consummate ease. Riding his CCM with great style he showed everyone how to ride the slippery but very fast track. His main opposition came from Robert Kennedy on another CCM in the bigger pre 75 class and from 250cc Husky mounted Tommy Anderson in the under 40's with Robert coming in third this time. Keith's dad Mike, twice Northern Centre Champion in England, and a renowned mud rider had two uncharacteristic falls but still managed to come a very close second to Ken Soutar as Ken took his customary win in the over 50's. Behind them came the redoubtable John McBethell who was hampered all day by poor starts. Colin Jackson rode his beautiful Gold Star BSA smoothly to victory in the pre 60 class from Brian Crosby who was making a rare appearance but riding as well as ever with local man Richard Jones on his 1949 A.J.S in third. Steve Dent was too good for everybody in the pre 70's, pre 65 over 350cc class and the over 40's bit did make a slight slip in one of his races when came he came off two corners from the finish when well in the lead and couldn't restart his bike but the gallant Colin Wilkinson eventually got him started again after an awful lot of pushing. In the smaller pre 65 class last years champion Adam Purdham took the win as Mr Consistency himself Ray McManus rode to a calculated third place to become the class champion for the third time in four years. There was only ever going to be one winner in the smaller pre 75 class and that was of course the unstoppable Tommy Anderson but Graeme 'the hat' Bell rode his Bultaco very well to second place with the gritty and determined Grant McClure getting third to add to his second in the over 40's. Two of the pre meeting favourites Norman Barrow and Colin Barrie both suffered machine trouble with Norman holing a piston on his CCM in practice but at least Colin got to ride thanks to the loan of Robert Kennedy Senior's BSA B40. After the interval a great season for the club was brought to an end with some fiercely fought age related races as the tremendous Whitekirk track dried out and speeds increased as riders gave their all for one last time this year - Roll on 2007! Richard Winn.
