Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club Championship 2006 Round 1 - Finavon (near Forfar) Former British Championship rider Paul Chiappa was the star of the show at the Scottish Classic Club's first scramble of the year at a dry and bright Finavon on the 9th April. He warmed everyone up with a devastating display of riding, including feet up powerslides which were a joy to watch, on his way to winning the Twinshock Class but he was pushed hard at times by some very spirited riding from Richard Charlton. Of the Classic boys the flying Tommy Anderson was at his spectacular best in winning both the Pre 75 up to 300cc Class as well as the under 40's, each time from Dumfries's Andrew Alston. Another double winner was four stroke maestro Colin Jackson in the Pre 60 and the Pre 65 over 350cc Classes. Maico man Grant McClure had a very busy day in coming second in both of the Pre 75 Classes as well as winning the over 40's. The best dices of the day were between the big four strokes of Peter Yeats and Scottish scrambles legend George Hodge in the Pre 65's and Ian Robertson just holding off Ken Soutar in a torrid battle in the first leg of the Pre 75 over 300cc Class on his way to the overall win. The best performance of the day belonged to John McBethell on a borrowed machine in the final leg of the over 50's Class, when after being baulked at the start he tore through the field like a man possessed to grab second at the flag behind big Ken Soutar in a scintillating display of controlled fury - great stuff! The meeting passed without incident apart from Preston's Dennis Rawcliffe doing himself no good in executing a flying W over the bars of his B40 BSA on the downhill jump but overall it was an excellent start to the season on a good track in perfect condition.
